So what's the deal with manhood? How do you define it? Does it mean you know how to wield a sword?
I've spent the last few weeks listening to a bunch of CD's about manhood, manliness, being a man, being a father, being a husband.
I preached about it a couple weeks ago too. It was triggered by a story I heard about the "Birkenhead", a ship that went down in the 1800's off the coast of South Africa. Hundreds of men drowned or were eaten alive by the dozens of sharks surrounding the ship.
Not a single woman or child perished.
The "Birkenhead" "Drill" came to be known as "women and children first". A phrase used since then in numerous emergencies, not just marine ones. (Read "The Birkenhead Drill" by Doug Phillips)
But a lot of men and young men I know live lives that scream, "Me first!!!".
Where will this leave society?
There is no greater love than this, that a man would lay down his life for a friend. Jesus set that example. Am I following it?
